I.M.Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical universities in Russia. Today it is a major scientific, clinical and educational centre with a highly qualified teaching staff of more than 2000 lecturers and professors, raising a new population of medical specialists at 14 faculties, 160 departments and clinical skills training courses, 5 scientific-research institutes, 5 university clinics and 70 laboratories. The university staff includes 600 Doctors of Science, 1000 Candidates of Science, 100 Academicians and Members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 56 Honoured Doctors of Russia. MSMU has been recognized as the best medical university in Russia.

In 2008, the year of its 250th anniversary, it ranked 1st among Russian medical universities and 5th among best higher professional educational institutions in the Russian Federation. Quality of education and advanced methods of training, certification and upgrading the skills of medical, stomatological and pharmaceutical specialists have made MSMU very popular among international applicants.

10 graduates of the Medical Faculty form Bulgary and China have been first international graduates. In 2011, sixty years later 237 students from 32 countries graduated from MSMU. The University has a more-than-half-a-century experience in training international students. Over 4000 specialists from quite a number of countries all over the world have graduated from MSMU since 1949. At the present moment more than 2000 international students from 73 countries, including Brazil, Malaysia, India, Ghana, China, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Nigeria, Cameroon and many-many others, are taking various medical undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University.

Training is conducted in Russian, English and French depending on the type of educational programme chosen. International applicants who do not have a good command of the Russian language can take a one-year Preparatory/Foundation Course or Russian-for-Foreigners Course.
